DESCRIPTION OF THE SERIES: YEAR OF THE PIG

Year of the Pig is photographic series all shot in 2019 during the Chinese year of the Golden Pig- a symbolic time of celebration, fortune, and vibrant colors. The juxtaposition of these characteristics with the political and social climate in The United States created a complex environment and beautiful dissonance, particularly for women. In Year of the Pig, the cheeky confidence and playful attitude of the women against colorful backdrops communicates unashamedly knowledge of the power of our own sexuality. Simultaneously, using humor to deflect the absurdity of provincial judgments from the sex-shaming attitude of American culture.

Estrada has exhibited in galleries in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Her work is part of private and corporate collections internationally. In 2014 she won Art Slant’s Juried Competition, was a 2015 finalist for the Emerging Focus Competition, and is the 2017 winner of the ND Awards Fine Art Category.
