My artistic process is born from the premise “Put together two or more ideas and you will have a new idea” or better yet “Put together two or more opposing ideas and you will have a great idea”. This can be defined as Collage.

The management of concepts, symbology, decontextualisation and redefinition of icons, objects and brands of everyday life characterise my work. The use of electronic media in art has made it easier for me to create and reproduction of my work. Eventually I make short editions of some work, which once the pieces have been reproduced, I manipulate with one or more of the conventional plastic techniques so that each one of them is unique even though it is part of an edition. This makes art more accessible and maintains the exclusivity of each collector.

My favourite technique to work with is the collage. Most of my pieces don’t look like a conventional collage where the cutouts between each part of the image are deliberately noticeable. I rather try to embed them around the main image so that they look like a single original piece. I use all kinds of graphic resources: an old painting, a logo, a sign, a symbol, etc.

Sometimes, what’s important is the information that some of these elements can communicate; sometimes it’s purely aesthetics. I also really like to mix elements of abstract painting, smears of color, or an element of graffiti. These elements give the piece visual and conceptual strength.

I usually start a piece from a basic concept and most of the time new elements emerge. I think that my subconscious digs into my brain looking for pieces I can work with. I imagine my brain as a compulsive hoarder that doesn’t get rid of anything because at some point everything that’s stored may be useful to it. It fascinates me to see how symbols and images have different meanings for each generation.

Guy Fawkes mask is a clear example of that and every element that exists on Earth has that fascinating characteristic.

I think my background in advertising and graphic design has given me a way of working that makes me try to look for a concept that can then help me communicate something in my pieces; although if someone gives it a different interpretation from what I initially thought, I appreciate it even more. Each mind has its own opinion and its different perspectives, and even if my pieces are considered “good” only for its aesthetic value, it will still ll me with satisfaction.
